Woah! Another year another competition done, this year we had a great turnout with schools from around Queensland competing in two competitions, WERAU 2021 Australian Open and Australia’s First Robomaster Drone Competition.

The robotics portion consisted of students completing a series of challenges, some known in advance and some randomly located on competition day! Competitors programmed and performed any necessary modifications to their robots, then set them loose moving all around the competition mat (Pictured below), pushing, prodding and pulling the challenges to collect points!
With both Primary and High School Categories we had 4 winning teams, all from different schools!
Winning the Primary category, Moorooka State Schools robot performed exceptionally! Peter, Jonathan and Jack all did an exceptional job. Coming in second was Craigslea State High Team, consisting of Jayden, Nathan, and Macheath.

The high school competition was won by prince of peace, thanks to the hard work and dedication of Sophie, Lara and Chloe. In second place was St Peters Lutheran College, with team members Deanne and Charles.

Our first ever drone competition had a few hiccups, but in the end students programmed their drones to complete an obstacle course and also subsequently got to fly the drones around manually! Faith Lutheran College, Team 1, managed to bring home first place. We can’t wait for our next drone competition.
We would like to thank our excellent team of volunteers for helping to make our competition run smoothly! The competition couldn’t run without all your hard work and dedication and we appreciate all the work you do!

Furthermore, we can’t forget our numerous sponsors and supporting organisations! Your support is vital to help us deliver the best possible competition and to further our goals of growing Brisbane’s STEAM education.
